Character InformationCharacter: Satoru Gojo
Canon: Jujutsu Kaisen, Chapter 236
Age: 29
History: LinkPossessions: Just the clothes on his back and his wallet/non-functioning Smartphone.
Weapon: None
Powers/Abilities: Recognized broadly as the strongest living sorcerer, Gojo is a veritable well of cursed energy and as such, is able to apply it in many different ways:
★ Six Eyes: Allows Gojo to use his Limitless technique with refined precision and assists with the efficient use of his cursed energy. Also allows him to perceive things in measures such as cursed energy, velocity, and even mass.
★ Limitless Cursed Technique: The ability to warp and manipulate space, allowing Satoru to both teleport over great distances, but also increase the space between himself and an opponent to a distance so vast that he is virtually untouchable.
★ Cursed Technique Lapse: Blue: The default flow of energy through Gojo's cursed technique, Blue is the power to attract, drawing the space between objects together and compress distances.
★ Cursed Technique Reversal: Red: The reversal of the above, Red is the power to repel, forcing space and matter apart in a manner that often acts like an explosion.
★ Hollow Technique: Purple: The combination of his red and blue techniques, Hollow Purple creates a form of imaginary mass that annihilates any form of matter in its path.
★ Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void: A domain of metaphysical energy controlled entirely by Gojo, overloading his opponents with all the raw knowledge and stimuli in the universe to essentially break their brain.
★ Reverse Cursed Technique: By reversing the flow of cursed energy and turning it positive, Gojo can use this technique to heal himself of injuries and even regrow severed limbs.
As Gojo
is recognized as the strongest, he'll be getting a few nerfs:
★ The extent of his cursed energy will much more limited than what he is typically used to, meaning he will have to use his technique more sparingly. If we're talking in terms of an MP bar in an RPG, it's like half of what it usually is.
★ His Domain Expansion will take on an imperfect, incomplete state, meaning he will not gain total control over anyone caught in it, and rather than its typical brain-breaking bullshit, it's more like a bad migraine attack, might make someone catatonic for a short period at worst.
★ Generally speaking, due to the limit on his cursed energy, he'll also need to limit his output on his technique in turn, and just be more mindful about consumption of cursed energy. He also won't be able to teleport distances more than a few feet/distances generally within view.
Application QuestionsWho is the most important person in their life and why? What might be different if this person hadn't been around?Suguru Geto, his best friend, his one and only. Inseparable through their time as students at Jujutsu Tech, Gojo and Geto were two sides of the same coin and considered themselves to be the strongest sorcerers when together. Suguru was not only his best friend, but the only equal he ever had, and the one who showed him how to have compassion, even if Gojo wound up suffering all the more because of the moral compass that Geto instilled in him. To this day, Gojo still looks back on those days as the brightest, warmest time in his life — until everything fell apart. A mission goes terribly wrong and leaves both boys to deal with the aftermath of their failure. While Gojo only grows stronger to give himself enough insurance that nothing like that can happen again, Geto grows distant, more burnt out and depressed, and he eventually defects and becomes a curse user. This is a betrayal of everything that Gojo knows, and comes as a smack to the face, because he didn't even see it coming. The fracture in their relationship left an indelible mark on Gojo's heart, and even diametrically opposed, he never stopped caring for his friend, up until the moment he had to end his life. His bond with Geto remains both a testament to his strength of heart and his greatest weakness.
Had Geto not been around and a part of his life, Gojo would not have found his humanity. Raised by his clan to be the weapon he was seen as and isolated from others, Gojo did not have the opportunity to form real bonds until he attended Jujutsu Tech. His friendship with Geto gave him the chance to see the world with a new pair of eyes, and far kinder ones, too. Without that influence, Gojo would have continued to be indifferent to others and even cruel, with jujutsu sorcery being the only thing with meaning in his life. He would have still failed that same mission, and in the aftermath without Geto there to stay his hand, Gojo would have slaughtered countless individuals, becoming a curse user himself. He would have been doomed to tragedy because the only person who bothered to teach him about love wasn't there. He never would have become a teacher at Jujutsu Tech, because he wouldn't have been motivated to guide the younger generation so that none of them had to go through what Geto did.
From another perspective, even if Gojo had still managed to become somewhat compassionate and decided to teach at the school without Geto's influence, then things could have been so much simpler, because he would have had no best friend to execute and mourn, and no weakness for his enemies to exploit when they needed to seal Gojo away. The events in Shibuya wouldn't have even happened, because Gojo would have been there to stop them. But how could Gojo have become this person if Geto was never there? No matter how you look at it, he was doomed either way; in his own words, love is the most twisted curse of all.
Is there an event in your character's life that they'd do differently? How so and why? There are plenty of things that Gojo regrets, that he's sure he could change if he were just a little faster and stronger, but above all others, the one he would change in a heartbeat is falling for Kenjaku's trap. Possessing the dead body of his best friend, Kenjaku is able to disarm Gojo just long enough to seal him in the Prison Realm. Of all Gojo's mistakes, this one had the most far-reaching consequences, and Gojo is acutely aware of each and every one of them. It's why once he's freed, he has a chip on his shoulder, and makes taking out Kenjaku his first priority. That curse user is parading around in the body of his best friend, and Gojo wholly focuses on training himself and his students to be ready for the clash. That was the one fatal moment that changed everything, and Gojo knows it. It's his responsibility.
Just like the previous question, if Gojo wasn't sealed in the Prison Realm, then the events in Shibuya wouldn't have happened, and Gojo would have been able to keep things stable — at least for a time. It's more than just that his attachment to Geto was used against him; that's salt in the wound, but the injury to his pride came from having a weakness at all. He's supposed to be the Strongest: it's what he's staked his entire sense of self on, and if he's not the Strongest, then what is he? The last time Gojo lost a fight, both himself and Geto nearly died, and they failed a crucial mission that also cost a young girl her life. He never wanted to face his own weakness like that again, and so he spent every waking moment training to hone himself to be even stronger than the day before. He can't fail again, or the consequences could be even worse — and when he
does fail again, it's just as he feared. The consequences
are worse, and how can he be the Strongest — the pillar for everyone who needs him — if he can't even protect himself?
What's the greatest challenge you foresee your character facing in the setting? How might this impact their ability to adapt and in what ways will they confront this challenge? There's an entirely different power structure in play than what Gojo is used to. While he's been working to undermine and revolutionize the structure of jujutsu society, unseating the old men who make the lives of children a living hell, it's still going to be a shock to the system for no such hierarchy to be in place at all. A welcome change, perhaps, but along with the fact that there are no cursed spirits around, it's going to leave him in a little bit of a lurch as to how to spend his time. He's so used to having a packed schedule where he's spending every waking moment trying to make the world better for his students, and now he's been forced into premature retirement. This is doubly the case, considering he died just before arriving in the Diadem, and he knows full well that it happened. Dealing with the ramifications of his death won't be immediate — they'll be delayed by his own stubbornness and refusal to process his trauma — but it will always be lingering like a shadow around him, this untenable thing that he doesn't know how to grapple with.
Perhaps even worse than the intimate knowledge of his own mortality, he'll have to work a normal job for the first time in his life. He's always lived in wealth thanks to the deep pockets of his clan which he was the head of, and money was no object to him. He won't have any wealth to rely on now, and while he has some thrifty habits, it's going to take some getting used to that he can no longer buy $10,000 designer jackets to wear to 7-11. He will resist working anything to rigid and scheduled as much as he can, but he's got to make ends meet somehow. For every challenge he faces, Gojo is resourceful and creative, his unorthodox ways often leading him to new opportunities, and while it might take him a long time to get there, eventually he'll start to find his sense of self outside of his role as a jujutsu sorcerer. He'll also naturally gravitate towards teaching young people, even if they aren't sorcerers. This is still a dangerous place, and it'll give him a sense of stability to show them how to protect themselves, so they too can surpass him someday.
What's the easiest thing you foresee your character adapting to in the setting? While the Diadem might not be mired in the hierarchical clan structure of jujutsu society, in other ways its society does speak a language that Gojo knows very well, and that's one of power. Even if at the very end of his life, he is defeated, he is still nonetheless a terribly strong individual, and he'll excel at work that's more hands on, whether that's in labor or in combat. He'll feel right at home at the Dome, as fighting is ultimately what he is best at, and what he finds most engaging. That aside, he's someone who is generally rather unflappable; it takes a lot to really unsettle him and get under his skin, and while he has some pretty significant personal issues to deal with, on a surface level he can roll with the punches pretty well — even if he might complain about having to work a day job and annoy his neighbors more because his usual targets aren't around. He'll keeping moving forward, because he doesn't know any other way to be.
