How many of you have returned to your worlds since arriving here? Do you frequently check in and has any time passed back home when you do? I'm curious, as a newcomer.

This is a comfortable place, easy to lose track of time here. I understand.

The world you're from — is it one you'd like to return to to visit or only when you check out permanently?

I would like to visit, to see how time functions between here and my home. My intent was never to stay here for very long. If things have progressed, I would check out permanently. There are too many people relying on me. However, if time has not passed...then I don't think there's nothing wrong with me staying here for as long as I need to.

I am getting the sense that the invitation to this hotel is typically given to those who have responsibilities they could use a break from in the first place. I would bet that no time has passed for you, considering what I've heard from the others so far.

I don't think that's too much of a stretch. I've already met an official here whom I'm sure could use a vacation. 😊 Is it safe to say that you're one of those people, too?

Yes. Usually I wouldn't consider such an offer, but I had some vacation time saved up and the offer came at a desirable moment.

Vacation time saved up...? As in, you had to accumulate that sort of thing?

Yes. In order to have paid vacation leave, one must work for the hours afforded to them. Does it not work like that where you come from?

No! Or, well, at least, not in my experience. It might be that way for other people? I've just sort of played it by ear and given people vacations as needed. ... Getting paid for taking vacation sounds really generous, though.

Fair labor practices generally dictate that employees who work full-time are entitled to 10-20 paid leave days a year as a legal minimum based on years of service. This varies, of course, by country but that's how it works in Japan. An employer who isn't offering that is taking advantage of their employees.

I've never heard of such a thing. Perhaps that's commonplace in your world, but I don't think there are any laws that mandate this in Teyvat. It's not like I overwork anyone, though!

What I'm reading, however, is that in your world, employees are entitled to (paid) vacation time because of the hard work they're putting in for their employer... I hadn't thought about that, to be completely honest. It actually seems like a very fair trade.

I'm not accusing you of overworking your employees, but I am glad to see you open to the idea of paid leave. I imagine things must be a bit more laissez faire where you come from, based off your description. It might be a bit novel to introduce the concept, but I'm sure your employees would appreciate it.

You seem very knowledgeable on the subject, nanami.k! I'll admit that I'm starting to learn a lot from you already. I'm always looking for ways to become a better boss. Nobody would say no to being paid to take time off, I imagine. That's quite the law you have in your world.

It is important to me to be compensated fairly for my work. Paid leave is just another form of compensation. It is definitely a hard won law and did not come about without citizens demanding for it.

What is it that you employ people for anyway?

Well, we're an organization built around helping the residents of the region I come from. It encompasses quite a bit: Construction, crime, investigative matters...

I can't help but think that these things are a lot more...formal, where you're from.

Yes, that is a correct assessment. The organization that handles things like crime and investigation are the police, who are government funded. Construction is handled by different, private companies, generally.

Though you must be fairly important back home if these are the types of things you handle.

The differences between worlds are fascinating. I think we can all learn a lot from one another -- your idea of paid vacation, for instance, is one I'll definitely mull over. The government doesn't fund what we do; we operate off of community donations.

I guess you can say that I come from a powerful family...but I try to use that for good, more than anything else.

How does your government enforce laws without law enforcement? Unless crime isn't considered something under law enforcement's purview.

And oh, I wasn't considering your family but I suppose if your family is influential that must help immensely with the things you're doing.

No, there's law enforcement, it's just...well, I'm not expert in it, but I imagine that what exists in your world is more extensive! That's just my guess, though. Fontaine certainly has rules in place, though, don't get me wrong.

And I guess it gives me an edge...with people who respected them, at least.

I think I understand. Still developing, is it? And Fontaine is the name of your home?

[ Note to self: look in the library for a book on the history of "Fontaine" ]

What did your family do to gain that influence?

My father, Callas, was a well-respected man in Fontaine. I think his passion for helping others when local authorities were unable to really put him in a desirable position. My mother naturally supported him in his endeavors...and he did a lot of good for people, even if not everyone agreed with him.

And yes, Fontaine is the name of my home.

He sounds like a wonderful man. If this is the case, you must take after him and I'm sure people are grateful for your work.
