Greetings,
This is Amelia Steinbeck, a guest at the Hotel Caelum, and resident of Room 700.
It appears that books are a universal constant and so I am bestowing an open invitation to other guests who are interested in discussing fiction and nonfiction so that we can bridge cultural gaps and gain further understanding of other cultures and customs through the medium of literature.
Here is a sample of what we'll be reading to discuss as a group. I am open to other suggestions and the structure will be loose; you need not read these if you have a book you'd like to read silently during and after discussions.
A time and date will be settled on and pinned so please keep an eye out for notifications. More details to follow. Thank you.

Hello, Astarion.
Would you like to join us in reading Pride and Predjudice?
[The other good thing about text is that she can take a breath and form a reasonable response instead of giving in to the urge to snark.]

and what is it about?
what mannr of "roimance' is it supposed to be?
torrid or unspoilt?

This particular work, on the surface, is about whether our main character and others are able to secure good marriages. Sounds mundane, doesn't it? The author, Jane Austen, however, is able to take an everyday occurrence and write a fascinating web of character relationships, motivations, and how social conventions and personal failings can prevent one from finding happiness.
[... Okay, she got verbose there but Amelia isn't a literature teacher just because; she truly is passionate about stories.
She hits 'Send.']

the pride and prejudice part the title refersto, i assume
In that case, sell it to me. "romance" is not a genre that appeals to me normally, besides, and this soundss too muchg like the goins-on in the upper city to lose onself in

There is no magic for one and no monsters, by the way. There are many other signifiers of the time period that I may need to explain so that other readers have a better understanding but otherwise, it should be easy to pick up on.
As for selling you on the story... Well, I think you may like the main heroine, Elizabeth Bennet. She is our central character although there are several others that tie into her overall journey to come to terms with her desires.

Anyway, it sounds intriguing enough, despite the way he sounds as though he'd turn his nose up at the narrative. He can be bookish; or rather, he used to be more bookish in his magistrate days. To delve into that old preference is a bit like dredging up a faraway, forgotten habit, but maybe it's fine to do that now. Maybe he can allow it for himself again.
...Not that he'll make it that easy for her!!]
is that so? and what will ii like about this Elizabeth bennet?? ill have you know i don't actually care too much f or heroes in gneeral

I'd say she stumbles more than most heroines and it serves as a way for the reader to understand her personality and perhaps see the flaws she has within ourselves.
[
but it can't be me]And to clarify, this isn't a story about heroics or great feats. It is a main character and the cast around her with plausible flaws that set the course of the story as they judge, misunderstand and come to an understanding with each other.

Finally, and perhaps without much fanfare at all, but with enough pause to imply he did a lot of backspacing:]
fine
i suppose ill join for one meeting

Also before I forget, what kind of refreshments do you prefer?
[She may or may not be asking just to see how he responds...]

[But with how precisely and perfectly Gale is typing up there? Well. Be can't be arsed.]
no subject
If you'd like, I can teach you how to type efficiently. I was chatting about it with Gale so the offer is open to you too.
no subject
[BUT. But now it's a matter of pride, and getting himself to Gale's level without outside assistance.]
but 'm getting the hang of it , as itwere
I'll be fine

Instead of rolling her eyes Amelia just shrugs at her screen. There is something admirable about trying to teach one's self. She's not one to put down someone's determination for something like typing.]
You are doing fairly well.
Just know that if you have any questions or are in need of advice, the offer remains on the table.
I am a schoolteacher after all.

is it because of pleasure?
or because it reminds you of work

I teach literature at a high school level (think ages 15-18) and while I enjoy my job, talking about books with other enthusiasts is different from students who are still developing their critical thinking skills.
And aside from Advanced Placement courses, Pride and Prejudice is not material I would have on my curriculum. Each generation needs to be exposed to stories that are culturally resonant and relevant.
Basically, in so many words, I just think an easygoing book club would be fun. No papers to grade.
no subject
But! He can't criticize her for doing what she enjoys on vacation. Isn't that what they're all here for, anyway?]
i suppose pleasure and busines sometimes intersect
but just soy ou know, I'm not a schoolboy in need of teaching
Ill figure it out soon, you'll see
