Well well, would you look at that? The place didn’t burn itself down while I was gone, though not for lack of trying. Or so I’ve been told.

Anyway, it looks like we’ve acquired some new faces in the last month. In the grand tradition of the hotel forcing us to get to know one another, why don’t we play a little game?

Is everyone familiar with β€œtwo truths and a lie”? It’s simple enough. List three things about yourself, one of which is not true. Others must guess which is the lie.

Here, I’ll go first.

[ TL;DR - We’re playing two truths and a lie now! Thread hop around and tag each other! Winter will be hopping around to play too, but if folks just want to chat with him now that he’s back that is also fine! ]

Oh no, do I look older than three centuries to you, Giselle?!

It seems I should reconsider my skincare routine...

Hardly, my dear. My sincerest apologies, if I have offended you.

Rather, the "only" led me to believe you do not consider three centuries to be a particularly mature age. It would not be such a leap then, if your true age was much younger or much older than that number, while maintaining a youthful appearance. That is the logic behind my guess, hehe.

I think you will find that I am incredibly difficult to offend, Giselle. πŸ™‚

I purposely used "only" there to stir some uncertainty. I am happy to see the misdirection succeeded. ✨ I am 359 years old. Much younger than Nico, though.

[ not this being her first exposure to emojis........ how adorable. She spends a long time figuring out how to do it back, which delays her response. ]

πŸ™‚

My, how youthful you look.
Is that considered to be a young age, among your kind?
The disparity is quite large.

[ her FIRST? hotel caelum, we have been SLACKING. ]

Very much so. One would be considered "old" when they are, say, upwards of five thousand years old or so.

[ 5k years........ the thousand yard stare in her mind at that.... ]

I suppose if that is the standard for your kind, the time must not feel terribly like a burden.

And there must be an incredible distance, between vampires and humans.

[ humans live for only a brief blip of their lifetime, always coming and going.. it would be sad, if not for the fact that she knows there are plenty of other vampires for them to socialize with. ]

A long-lived life is a different kind of burden, no?

[ Clara has lived predominantly in the company of humans by virtue of her non-existence in society, however; she learned quite early in her life to celebrate the bright, if short-lived sparks that the lives of humans are in her eyes. Even if it is terrifying, as one who often has to see to safeguarding these lives, to witness their fragility compared to her own. ]

But you are right about that. Does it trouble your thoughts, Giselle?

[ A long lived life is a terrible burden... but she knows not how to acknowledge that over text, wondering if she should allude to her immortality to commiserate with her — or if such a thing would be too gauche. ]

It does not trouble me. Rather, I am curious if it troubles you.

Of course it does.

[ Here, where she doesn't need to hide who or what she is, Clara has found herself embracing the freedom to be honest for once. And especially towards someone to whom she has already spoken of her nature.

Of course it troubles her. ]

But I suppose it is that trouble that makes our time together more important. That is what someone like Nico would say, anyhow. I do not see my bonds with humans in quite the same way, but I agree with the sentiment.

[ It takes her some time to respond, and when she does, it's with a related, but also separate question: ]

Might I ask something of you?

How often is it that you come across humans?

[ .... ]

How much time do you spend with them?

More than one might think, to both questions. I frequently host humans in my home, when they are in need of a place to recover their health.

[ She doesn't mention here that they are fighters, rebels. ]

And my human mother did raise me. I had a good few decades with her until she passed of old age.
