Well well, would you look at that? The place didn’t burn itself down while I was gone, though not for lack of trying. Or so I’ve been told.

Anyway, it looks like we’ve acquired some new faces in the last month. In the grand tradition of the hotel forcing us to get to know one another, why don’t we play a little game?

Is everyone familiar with “two truths and a lie”? It’s simple enough. List three things about yourself, one of which is not true. Others must guess which is the lie.

Here, I’ll go first.

Oh, you would have found me very trying indeed, I'm sure. If only backtalk were the worst of it! I lost count of the times Elminster had to pay a visit and intervene.

It appears you’ve a few stories to regale me with about your academic mishaps. I doubt my high school stories would hold a light to them.

Oh, I wouldn't sell yourself short so quickly. I have a feeling we both dealt with a bit of being too clever for our own good at one point or another, though perhaps in different ways.

Then again, given you've gone on to become such a dedicated educator, perhaps you were the kind of student who would have put me to shame, despite my brilliance. I would certainly have considered you a worthy rival.

An academic rival? Well, it would be likely if the circumstances were different. But then I don’t think I would have started out as friendly towards you.

I think I would have made an excellent effort with regards to charming you, but you're probably right. Even if we weren't academic rivals, I think you might have found a younger Gale of Waterdeep to be utterly insufferable.

But if anything, it makes me glad we met each other as we currently are.
