Good evening. My name is Figue. If you've made the acquaintance of Ringo, you can consider me as something like her sister.

I would like to put forth an offer and a question:

Firstly, I have noticed several guests have encountered difficulty with making use of the network. As an AI, I would be happy to offer instruction or answer any questions they might have.

Secondly, I would like to compile a list of those who possess either healing abilities or medical expertise. In the event of a problem, I'd like to pin this list so that those who have newly arrived will know who to contact first.

... Also, if Ringo has caused you any trouble, please let me know. I know she can be a bit of a handful.

[Ah, good eye. Henry crosses over unhurriedly, then takes two aprons off of their hangers, turning on his heel to hold one out for her.]

Still no guarantee you won't get it all over your hands, though.

That's all right. I don't mind getting my hands dirty.

[ And she'll accept the apron! ]

[And he'll tie his around himself! Given how bright white it is, he's really Peak White Boy now.]

Me neither. So where should we start? Do you have an idea of what you want to work on?

I don't have any experience with painting... but perhaps watercolors?

Watercolors. I don't have a lot of experience with those, either, but I don't mind trying.

So, in that case... Over there.

[On the other side, a few quaint little watercolor set-ups for them both to try their hand at.]

The hardest part is usually getting started. We should think of a prompt.

A prompt...

[ Hm. She moves closer to the set-up, reaching for a stool. ]

Watercolors are best suited to landscapes, I'd heard, or nature-based pieces. But do you have any ideas, Henry? Something you'd like to try?

[Hm.]

How about we both paint something we’ve seen in nature that’s impressed us?

Something we've seen that's impressed us... I think that should be doable. Prompt accepted.

[ She just has to think about that now. ]

Prompt accepted. [He echoes with faint amusement, then turns to pick up a few brushes. He examine the palettes available to them.]

I know just what to paint.

[bet you can't guess what it is]

[ is it spiders ]

You have me at a disadvantage, then. I'm not sure what to do yet.

Haven't seen much of the great outdoors? Don't worry, me neither.

You haven't? Were you located more in a city?

[A low laugh, still airy, but something tinged with irony.]

Not at all. From one small town to one small town. And then I lived underground for a while. [As you do.]

I... I'm sorry, underground?

[Ah, the freedom to speak on this without hesitation; a sort of freedom he's never really experienced until this hotel. He'll give it that much credit, at least.]

The powers I have, they're... rare, at home. Rare enough that some people would like to study them.

[He picks up a brush, examines its tip.]

And so they do. Against the will of those being studied.

Powers...

[ She watches him for a moment, taking in his explanation. ]

So because of rare abilities, you were studied without your consent?

Mm-hm. [Casually.] I spent twenty years in an underground lab, basically held prisoner. A lot of my experiences in this hotel are new to me because of that.

I... ah.

[ Her gaze lowers to her canvas briefly, before returning to him. ]

Is that why you came here? To escape that kind of imprisonment?

[He’s going to wet his brush, then test it against a color swatch.]

Yes… and no. While this hotel is a nice respite, I would like to eventually find myself in a situation where I’m not trapped at all. That’s where the wish comes in.

So you'll wish for your freedom?

Do we know anything about how the wish is earned, exactly?

[ Does he have to stay here for a certain amount of time? Undergo a trial? ]

Not entirely, and that's admittedly the frustrating part. Stay here for a certain length of time? Run up my bill? That's almost too easy.

[But...]

Maybe endure the inanity of this hotel to a certain degree. I think that's likely.

Persevere, then? I suppose obtaining a wish shouldn't be easy.

Nothing worth it ever is. But I'm patient.

[And stubborn. And generally unhinged.]

And we have plenty of time to kill. When the hotel isn't being a pain, we can have some fun. Doing things like painting.

[Though of what you want to paint yet, ma'am?]

[ Well.

She appears to be going for a cherry blossom tree. Slowly. ]

I'm unaccustomed to taking extended breathers, but I won't deny it's rather nice.

[He's never seen a cherry blossom tree, but maybe he can recognize it for what it is: some kind of tree. Henry begins, too. He also starts with long, sweeping branches to frame the oversized watercolor paper, though it's clear the center is being saved for something else.]

You know, I think I can agree with that. [Being trapped was never really a "breather", even if the days grew long and sometimes boring.] Maybe we can treat this extended vacation as a little journey of self-discovery.
