Giving personal gifts to those who I am not already familiar with does not feel proper. Surely, they would prefer to be given one by a guest that they are more well-acquainted with — that is what I meant.

But, is it that you prefer a gift that you may share, then?
An experience, or something you may both indulge in, perhaps.
